Tedisco: Use Budget Surplus to Cut Taxes, Reduce Debt
Assembly Minority estimates $2 billion surplus, $500 million more than governor's estimate

"Assembly Minority members believe the $2 billion budget surplus should be dedicated to tax cuts and debt reduction. It would be a mistake to dedicate it to new spending. We already spend too much. We are looking at a record $120 billion budget, a 6.3 percent increase from last year. That's a budget that's 60 percent bigger than similarly sized Florida. The problem with our state is not that we don't spend enough. The problem is that we tax and borrow too much. This surplus offers us an opportunity to address this imbalance and give taxpayers a break, and we should do just that," said Assembly Minority Leader James Tedisco (R,C,I - Schenectady, Saratoga).
