Silver, Senator Clinton Laud NYU Downtown Hospital Heroes for Their Efforts Following World Trade Center Attack

Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and U.S. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton saluted staff members and volunteers of NYU Downtown Hospital for their heroism in the aftermath of the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center in a ceremony held today at the hospital.

"The heroes of NYU Downtown Hospital demonstrated extraordinary selflessness, valor and professionalism under great adversity," Silver said, reading from a commemorative framed tribute presented at the ceremony. "The people of New York will always be grateful for their heroic efforts."

NYU Downtown Hospital is the closest hospital to the World Trade Center. The facility lost electrical power and telephone service after the attacks, and also sustained some physical damage. Both the hospital and the World Trade Center are located in the Assembly district represented by Speaker Silver, a lifelong resident of lower Manhattan.

Silver presented the tribute to NYU Downtown President and Chief Executive Officer Len Aubrey, along with a legislative resolution honoring heroes of the World Trade Center attack, before an audience of hospital staffers and members of the surrounding community.
