Today I met in Albany with MTA board members to discuss the financial challenges facing the authority.
I told them that I believed the MTA's proposed fare hikes and service cuts are unacceptable and pledged that the Assembly Majority would work with Governor Paterson, Mayor Bloomberg and our colleagues in the Senate to prevent these fare hikes and service cuts from going into effect.
A safe, efficient and dependable mass transit system is critical to the region's economic health and a major factor in our ability to attract and retain jobs.
This is not just an issue for straphangers. Every New Yorker and every company that does business here has a stake in the future of the MTA.
