Assembly Majority Welcomes Newest Member


Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and members of the Assembly Majority today welcomed its newest member representing the 9th Assembly District, Christine Pellegrino. Assemblymember Pellegrino's victory in a special election held on May 23rd makes her the 42nd woman representing the New York State Assembly Majority in the People's House.

"The Assembly Majority is proud to welcome another woman to the chamber who embodies progressive ideals and is passionate about representing her community," said Heastie. "Our conference continues to grow and diversify, and we are proud to see that legacy continue today."

Assemblymember Pellegrino is a resident of West Islip and a mother of two daughters. She has been a reading teacher at Brookside Elementary of the Baldwin Union Free School District for 18 years and has held the position of political action chair of the Baldwin Teachers' Association since 2013.

Passionate about local activism, Assemblymember Pellegrino is an Executive Committee Member of the Long Island Activists, New York Progressive Action Network (NYPAN) where she has worked alongside others to promote progressive ideals at varying levels of local, state and national government.
