Agency Mission

The Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) provides recreation, outdoor and historic site interpretation opportunities to park and historic site visitors at 162 parks and 35 historic sites statewide. The Office also hosts cultural and educational programs, and provides a variety of recreational programs, including the Empire State Summer and Winter Games. The parks, historic sites and recreation areas serve 65 million visitors annually.

Year-to-Year Change

The Executive proposes an All Funds decrease of $13,619,845 or 5.3 percent from State Fiscal Year (SFY) 2000-01.

Executive Fee Proposals

The Assembly Plan rejects the fee increases proposed by the Governor for boat and snowmobile registrations.

Natural Heritage Trust

The Assembly Plan provides funding for local museums, historical societies, botanical gardens, philharmonics and other cultural education projects through the Natural Heritage Trust Program.
