TITLE OF BILL: An act in relation to authorizing the assessor of the
town of Islip to accept an application for exemption from real property
tax from Adelante of Suffolk County, Inc. for a certain parcel of land
PURPOSE:
To exempt the Adelante of Suffolk County, Inc. (Adelante), a not-for-
profit corporation, from liability for payment of real property taxes
due on the 2007-08 assessment roll.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
This bill would authorize and direct the assessor of the Town of Islip
to accept an application from Adelante for exemption from real property
taxes pursuant to Section 420-a of the Real Property Tax Law for the
assessment roll as completed in 2007-08. When satisfied that Adelante
would otherwise have been entitled to said exemption, the assessor is
authorized and directed to grant same, refund the appropriate pro-rata
portion of any taxes paid and cancel all remaining unpaid taxes, related
fines and penalties.
JUSTIFICATION:
Adelante purchased the property at 83 Carleton Avenue in Central Islip,
New York in December of 2007. This purchase took place after the closing
date for the Town of Islip's 2007-2008 assessment roll. This bill would
authorize the assessor of the Town of Islip to accept an application or
renewal application from Adelante for exemption from real property taxes
pursuant to Section 420-a of the Real Property Tax Law for the 2007-2008
assessment roll. Adelante has filed and received an exemption from the
Town of Islip for this property for the 2008-2009 tax year.
This act shall take effect immediately.

The tax levy against Adelante for this property for the 2007-08 assess-
ment roll is $27,817.
