  TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the penal law, in relation to adding St. Lawrence county sheriff as an additional firearms licensing officer   PURPOSE: To authorize the St. Lawrence County Sheriff to act as an additional firearms licensing officer   SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 amends § 265.00(10) of the Penal Law, to allow the Sheriff in St. Lawrence County to act as an additional firearms licensing officer.. Section 2 is the effective date.   JUSTIFICATION: Allowing the St. Lawrence County Sheriff to act as an additional firearms licensing officer should provide for an increase in the ability of St. Lawrence County to process licensing applications. This legis- lation is introduced at the request of the St. Lawrence Country Board of Legislators.   LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: 2019-2020: S.1223/A.4861 Blankenbush 2021-2022: S2243 referred to Codes; A4014 referred to Codes   FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: None to the state   EFFECTIVE DATE: This act shall take effect immediately.

        AN ACT to amend the penal law, in relation to adding St. Lawrence county
          sheriff as an additional firearms licensing officer
 
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section  1.  Subdivision  10  of  section  265.00 of the penal law, as
     2  amended by chapter 210 of the laws  of  1999,  is  amended  to  read  as
     3  follows:
     4    10.  "Licensing  officer"  means  in  the  city of New York the police
     5  commissioner of that city; in the county of Nassau the  commissioner  of
     6  police  of  that  county;  in  the county of Suffolk the sheriff of that
     7  county except in the towns of Babylon, Brookhaven, Huntington, Islip and
     8  Smithtown, the commissioner of police of that county; for  the  purposes
     9  of section 400.01 of this chapter the superintendent of state police; in
    10  the  county of St. Lawrence the sheriff of that county as well as judges
    11  or justices of a court of record having an office in the county  of  St.
    12  Lawrence;  and  elsewhere  in the state a judge or justice of a court of
    13  record having his office in the county of issuance.
    14    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
