An act to amend the general business law, in relation to requiring that
all new motor vehicles sold at new motor vehicle dealerships contain a
spare tire
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1. The general business law is amended by adding a new section
396-pp to read as follows: 396-pp. Spare tire requirement. 1. All new
motor vehicles sold at New motor vehicle dealerships shall include a
spare tire, whether or not equipped with standard radial or run-flat
tires.
2. For the purposes of this section, a run-flat tire is a pneumatic
vehicle tire designed to resist the effects of deflation when punctured,
allowing the vehicle to continue to be driven at reduced speeds for
limited distances, but cannot replace a spare tire for safety and a
longer than expected journey to a repair shop.
§ 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
This bill aims to enhance road safety and consumer convenience by
mandating all new car dealerships to include a spare tire with every
vehicle sale. This ensures drivers are equipped to handle unforeseen
tire issues, promoting safer journeys and reducing the potential for
roadside emergencies.

The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
