  TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the education law, in relation to reimbursement of certain examination fees   PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: To encourage certified New York State teachers to earn additional teach- ing certifications.   SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section I: amends the education law to add a new subdivision 60 to develop a program and provide for a system to reimburse certified teach- ers for examination fees incurred from earing additional teaching certifications. Section II: provides the effective date   JUSTIFICATION: This bill would help address the teacher shortage by encouraging already certified teachers to earn additional teaching certifications by reim- bursing exam fees.   PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: New Bill   FISCAL IMPLICATIONS FOR STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS: Unknown   EFFECTIVE DATE: This act shall take effect immediately.

        AN ACT to amend the education  law,  in  relation  to  reimbursement  of
          certain examination fees
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Section 305 of the education law is amended by adding a new
     2  subdivision 60 to read as follows:
     3    60. The commissioner shall develop a program and provide for a  system
     4  whereby  teachers may submit examination receipts for any New York state
     5  teaching  certifications  earned  after  the  first  permanent  teaching
     6  certification and receive reimbursement by the department for such exam-
     7  ination  fees.  Such  examination  receipts shall be submitted electron-
     8  ically or in any other media  form  which  the  commissioner  reasonably
     9  determines offers the same degree of accountability and control provided
    10  by  paper  testing  receipts  or paper certifications for the purpose of
    11  reimbursement to the person, school, school district or municipality for
    12  the fees of taking such examinations.
    13    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
