AN ACT to amend chapter 433 of the laws of 1996 relating to creating the
Wallkill public library district in the town of Shawangunk, Ulster
county, in relation to the number of trustees of such district
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Paragraph (c) of subdivision 1 of section 2 of chapter 433
2 of the laws of 1996 relating to creating the Wallkill public library
3 district in the town of Shawangunk, Ulster county, is amended to read as
4 follows:
5 (c) the election of at least seven but no more than eleven trustees as
6 herein provided.
7 § 2. Section 3 of chapter 433 of the laws of 1996 relating to creating
8 the Wallkill public library district in the town of Shawangunk, Ulster
9 county, is amended to read as follows:
10 § 3. Organization and structure. The Wallkill public library district
11 shall be managed, operated and controlled by a board of trustees
12 consisting of at least seven but no more than eleven members. These
13 trustees shall at the first regular meeting of the board determine by
14 lot the year in which each of their terms of office expires, and the
15 terms shall expire as follows: After one year: one trustee; after two
16 years: two trustees; after three years: three trustees; after four
17 years: three trustees; and after five years: two trustees. As vacancies
18 occur, trustees shall be elected at the annual election herein provided
19 for to serve for five year terms by the voters of the library district
20 thereby created, said terms to commence on the first day of December
21 next following the election. Only persons living within the Wallkill
22 school district shall be eligible for election to the board of trustees.
23 The board of trustees at its first meeting each year shall elect or
24 appoint a president and vice-president who shall be members of the board
25 and a clerk, treasurer, and such other officers as they deem necessary.
26 A majority of the board may, by resolution, reduce or increase the
27 number of trustees pursuant to this act. Such resolution shall be

1 passed, if at all, not less than thirty nor more than ninety days prior
2 to the first day of signing any petition to be nominated for election as
3 a trustee. No reduction by resolution in the number of trustees shall
4 create a vacancy except upon expiration of the existing term.
5 § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
