        AN  ACT  to  amend the education law, in relation to removing the three-
          year exemption of mandatory continuing education  for  newly  licensed
          certified public accountants and public accountants
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. Paragraph b of subdivision 1 of section 7409 of the  educa-
     2  tion  law,  as amended by chapter 651 of the laws of 2008, is amended to
     3  read as follows:
     4    b. [Certified public  accountants  and  public  accountants  shall  be
     5  exempt  from  the  mandatory  continuing  education  requirement for the
     6  triennial registration period during which they are  first  licensed  by
     7  the  department.] In accordance with the intent of this section, adjust-
     8  ments to the mandatory continuing education requirement may  be  granted
     9  by  the  department  for reasons of health certified by a physician, for
    10  extended active duty with armed forces of  the  United  States,  or  for
    11  other  good cause acceptable to the department which may prevent compli-
    12  ance.
    13    § 2. This act shall take effect January 1, 2020. Effective  immediate-
    14  ly,  the  addition and/or repeal of any rule or regulation necessary for
    15  the implementation of this act on its effective date are authorized  and
    16  directed to be made on or before such effective date.
