        AN ACT to amend the civil service law, in relation  to  allowing  cities
          with a population of one million or more to amend point credits on the
          open competitive fire fighter examination

          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. Section 58-a of the civil service law is amended by  adding
     2  a new subdivision 2-a to read as follows:
     3    2-a.  Notwithstanding any other provisions of this law or any general,
     4  special or local law to the contrary, cities with a  population  of  one
     5  million  or  more  may by local law establish a point credit on the open
     6  competitive fire fighter examination based on applicants'  residency  in
     7  such  city  and to determine the criteria for eligibility for such point
     8  credit.
     9    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
