        Introduced  by M. of A. DARLING -- read once and referred to the Commit-
          tee on Education
 
        AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to  prohibiting  individ-
          uals  convicted  of  stealing  public  funds  from  being  elected  or
          appointed as a member of a school board of education

          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. The education law is amended by adding a new section 1501-d
     2  to read as follows:
     3    §  1501-d.  Boards  of education; persons convicted of stealing public
     4  funds. No person shall be eligible to  be  elected  or  appointed  as  a
     5  member of the board of education of any school district if he or she has
     6  been  convicted  of  stealing  public funds under any crime set forth in
     7  article one hundred fifty-five of the penal law.
     8    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
