LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Firefighter Joseph Pagano upon the occa-
sion of his designation as a 50 year member of Excelsior Engine Company
No. 5 of the Port Jervis Fire Department
WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Firefighter Joseph Pagano upon the occasion of his designation as a 50
year member of Excelsior Engine Company No. 5 of the Port Jervis Fire
Department; this auspicious occasion will be celebrated on Saturday, May
18, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only provide
the critical service of fire protection but also engage in other activ-
ities of great benefit and importance to the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, Firefighter Joseph Pagano has served for 50 years as a member
of Excelsior Engine Company No. 5 of the Port Jervis Fire Department;
and
WHEREAS, In addition to his firefighting duties, Joseph Pagano has
served as an Orange County legislator for 16 years; he also served on
the Port Jervis City Council for four years; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Pagano is also a life member of Tri-States Naval Ship
7241 VFW in Port Jervis, New York; and
WHEREAS, Married for 60 years, Joseph and Alice Pagano are the proud
parents of two sons, Timothy and Paul; and have a beloved grandson,
Mark, serving in the United States Marine Corps; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; Fire-
fighter Joseph Pagano is such a firefighter; throughout his many years
of devoted service, this volunteer heroically performed, above and
beyond the call of duty, those responsibilities which define the task of
fire protection; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Firefighter Joseph Pagano upon the occasion of his designation as
a 50 year member of Excelsior Engine Company No. 5 of the Port Jervis
Fire Department; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Firefighter Joseph Pagano.
