TITLE OF BILL:  An act to amend the state law, in relation to the
state insect
 
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: Alters terminology of the state
insect.
 
 
JUSTIFICATION: To change the official state insect from the Nine-spot-
ted lady beetle (Coccinella novemnotata) species of the lady bug, which
is no longer found in New York State, to another species of Lady Bug,
the Spotted lady bug (Colemegilla maculata).
 
 
PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: New Bill.
 
 
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: None.

        AN ACT to amend the state law, in relation to the state insect
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-

        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. Section 86 of the state law, as added by chapter 626 of the
     2  laws of 1989, is amended to read as follows:
     3    § 86. State insect. The lady bug ([coccinella novemnotata] coleomegil-
     4  la maculata) shall be the official insect of the state of New York.
     5    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
