        Introduced  by  Sen. SKOUFIS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be  committed  to  the  Committee  on  Codes  --  committee

        AN ACT to amend the penal law, in relation to exempting private investi-
          gators  from  restrictions  on  possessing  a  weapon in sensitive and
          restrictive locations and clarifying where security guards may possess
          a weapon
 
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section  1.  Paragraph (e) of subdivision 3 of section 265.01-e of the
     2  penal law, as added by chapter 371 of the laws of 2022, is amended and a
     3  new paragraph (e-1) is added to read as follows:
     4    (e) security guards as defined by and registered under article seven-A
     5  of the general business law,who are licensed to carry  a  firearm  while
     6  traveling to and from work, who have been granted a special armed regis-
     7  tration card, while at the location of their employment and during their
     8  work hours as such a security guard;
     9    (e-1) private investigators licensed under article seven of the gener-
    10  al  business law, who are licensed to carry a firearm while traveling to
    11  and from and during the course of their employment and at any  necessary
    12  and  appropriate  location  during  their  work  hours as such a private
    13  investigator;
    14    § 2. Paragraph (d) of subdivision 2 of section 265.01-d of  the  penal
    15  law,  as  added by chapter 371 of the laws of 2022, is amended and a new
    16  paragraph (d-1) is added to read as follows:
    17    (d) security guards as defined by and registered under article seven-A
    18  of the general business law, who are licensed to carry a  firearm  while
    19  traveling  to and from work, who [has] have been granted a special armed
    20  registration card, while at the location of their employment and  during
    21  their work hours as such a security guard;
 
         EXPLANATION--Matter in italics (underscored) is new; matter in brackets
                              [ ] is old law to be omitted.

     1    (d-1) private investigators licensed under article seven of the gener-

     6    § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
