          GONZALEZ-ROJAS, ANDERSON, JACKSON, FORREST, SIMON,  GOTTFRIED,  REYES,
          SEPTIMO  --  read  once  and  referred  to the Committee on Housing --
          recommitted to the Committee on Housing in  accordance  with  Assembly
          Rule  3,  sec.  2  --  committee  discharged,  bill  amended,  ordered
          reprinted as amended and recommitted to said committee
 
        AN ACT to amend the public housing law, in relation to ensuring formerly
          incarcerated individuals have access to public housing
 
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section  1. Section 402 of the public housing law is amended by adding
     2  a new subdivision 11 to read as follows:
     3    11. Except where such exclusion is required pursuant  to  any  federal
     4  law  or  rule  or  regulation,  no person shall be denied occupancy in a
     5  dwelling in any project or be subjected to eviction from any such dwell-
     6  ing on the sole ground that such person is a formerly incarcerated indi-
     7  vidual.
     8    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
