AN ACT to amend the election law, in relation to the number of polling
sites for early voting in certain cities and towns
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Paragraph (a) of subdivision 2 of section 8-600 of the
2 election law, as amended by chapter 781 of the laws of 2021, is amended
3 to read as follows:
4 (a) (i) The board of elections shall designate polling places for
5 early voting, which may include the offices of the board of elections,
6 for persons to vote early pursuant to this title.
7 (ii) In cities or towns with a population of more than one hundred
8 thousand, but less than one million based on the latest federal decenni-
9 al census, there shall be at least one early voting polling place for
10 every full increment of fifty thousand persons in such cities and towns
11 based on the latest federal decennial census; provided, however, the
12 number of early voting polling places in each such city and town shall
13 not be required to be greater than eleven, and to the extent practica-
14 ble, if such cities or towns have public transportation routes, such
15 polling places shall be situated along such transportation routes.
16 § 2. This act shall take effect on the same date and in the same
17 manner as chapter 781 of the laws of 2021, takes effect.
