        AN  ACT  to  amend  the  executive law, in relation to providing for the
          posting of firearm signage in certain areas
 
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section  1. The executive law is amended by adding a new section 837-w
     2  to read as follows:
     3    § 837-w. Requirements for  firearm  signage.  1.  The  division  shall
     4  review  and compare the most recent national gun violence statistics, as
     5  reported by the national center for health statistics, against the  most
     6  recent  criminal  justice statistics concerning gun violence as compiled
     7  by the division, to determine which areas in the state experience a rate
     8  of gun violence  above  the  national  average.  For  purposes  of  this
     9  section, "area" shall be determined by the division.
    10    2.  In  areas  in which the rate of gun violence is above the national
    11  average, the division shall notify the law  enforcement  agency  serving
    12  such area to post signage in the form prescribed by the division.
    13    3.  Statistics  reported  by  the division and the national center for
    14  health statistics shall be reviewed on a biannual basis by the  division
    15  to  determine  the continued accuracy of existing signage and the poten-
    16  tial need for additional signage.
    17    4. When the division determines that an  area's  signage  requirements
    18  have changed pursuant to subdivision three of this section, the division
    19  shall  notify  the law enforcement agency serving such area to remove or
    20  install such signage as necessary.
    21    § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after
    22  it shall have become a law. Effective immediately, the addition,  amend-
    23  ment and/or repeal of any rule or regulation necessary for the implemen-
    24  tation  of  this act on its effective date are authorized to be made and
    25  completed on or before such effective date.
