AN ACT to amend the executive law, in relation to directing the division
of veterans' services to develop a veterans memorial registry
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. The executive law is amended by adding a new section 368-b
2 to read as follows:
3 § 368-b. Veterans memorial registry. 1. The division is directed to
4 develop a veterans memorial registry in consultation with the director
5 of the New York state military museum and veterans resource center, the
6 commissioner of the office of parks, recreation and historic preserva-
7 tion, the commissioner of the office of general services and the state
8 historian. The registry shall be made available on the division's
9 website.
10 2. The registry shall consist of a searchable database of veterans
11 memorials located within the state. The registry shall include, but not
12 be limited to, information regarding the location of a memorial and who
13 or what veteran or battle the memorial is honoring. Additional informa-
14 tion may include historical information such as who authorized the
15 erection of such memorial and the year of the dedication. Such registry
16 shall be searchable by location, veteran or battle.
17 3. In developing such registry, the division may solicit information
18 from local historians pursuant to section 57.09 of the arts and cultural
19 affairs law. Individuals and organizations, including but not limited
20 to, local veterans' service agencies staff, and members of congression-
21 ally chartered veterans' service organizations may submit information
22 for inclusion in the registry, on a form developed by the division.
23 § 2. This act shall take effect one year after it shall have become a
24 law. Effective immediately, the addition, amendment and/or repeal of any
25 rule or regulation necessary for the implementation of this act on its
26 effective date are authorized to be made and completed on or before such
27 effective date.
