CONGRATULATING Gerard Cadet upon the occasion of
his retirement after many years of service to
1199SEIU
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
those individuals whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to
enhance the stature of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Gerard Cadet upon the occasion of his retirement after many
years of service to 1199SEIU; and
WHEREAS, Gerard Cadet proudly served his country as a Platoon
Sergeant in the United States Armed Forces for over two decades; and
WHEREAS, During this time, Gerard Cadet discovered his passion for
food science and culinary arts, and pursued a nutrition and culinary
arts degree at Central Texas College; and
WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his military contract, Gerard Cadet
continued to serve as a reservist and was appointed to the position of
trainer for the duration of his battalion; and
WHEREAS, In his civilian life, Gerard Cadet became a catering chef
at Downstate Medical Center where he witnessed disturbing behaviors from
management toward vulnerable workers, catapulting his drive to cease the
injustices of the working class; and
WHEREAS, Gerard Cadet joined 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers
East, ultimately organizing the Ditmas Park Care Center, which led to a
victory for the union; and
WHEREAS, As Vice President at Large, Gerard Cadet has led many
contract negotiations, substantially improving the quality of life of
1199SEIU members and their families, providing leadership from New York
to Florida; and
WHEREAS, Since 1992, Gerard Cadet has recognized politicians seeking
the Haitian American vote and has successfully created coalitions which
empower and support candidates; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Gerard Cadet upon the occasion of his retirement after many
years of service to 1199SEIU; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Gerard Cadet.
