State DOT Will Reduce Speed Limit on Route 114 in Sag Harbor Village

New York State Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. (I-Sag Harbor) this week announced that the State Department of Transportation (DOT) has affirmatively responded to his request that the speed limit be reduced on State Route 114 within the Sag Harbor Village limits.

Based on their investigation which included analysis of accident data, a speed study within the village limits, and a review of the existing roadway geometry, State DOT will reduce the speed limit on northbound and southbound Route 114 from 40 mph to 35 mph from the southerly Sag Harbor Village Line to Liberty Street. In addition, DOT maintenance crews will trim trees and shrubs along Route 114 to increase sight distance for side streets along the roadway.

“Lowering the speed limit on Route 114 will help to protect pedestrians, cyclists and drivers as they enter the Village of Sag Harbor. I am pleased that the DOT investigation concluded the need for a speed limit decrease along this busy thoroughfare,” stated Assemblyman Thiele.
