Assemblywoman Solages Appointed Chair of Child Product Safety Subcommittee

Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages (D-Elmont) has been appointed to serve as Chair of the Assembly Subcommittee on Child Product Safety.

“Protecting the health and well-being of our families is always a top priority,” said Assemblywoman Solages. “I look forward to working with my fellow committee members to ensure products designed for New York’s children continue to meet the highest standards of safety.”

The Assembly Subcommittee on Child Product Safety reviews legislation to regulate the sale of potentially dangerous products meant for children, including toys that could contain harmful chemicals. Children are susceptible to even low levels of toxins because of their developing systems, and exposure can be linked to many illnesses – including childhood cancers, which have become more than 20 percent more common since 1975. However, monitoring the components of toys, clothing and other items used by children can help prevent avoidable illness and ensure a safe and healthy environment for our families, Assemblywoman Solages noted.

Assemblywoman Solages also serves as a member of various Assembly committees, including: Consumer Affairs and Protection, Governmental Employees, Libraries and Education Technology, Racing and Wagering and Social Services.
