Rozic Enrolls Homeowners in STAR Tax Program

Tax Relief Program Will Help Homeowners
Save Hundreds of Dollars Every Year

Queens, NY – Assemblywoman Nily Rozic (D,WF-Fresh Meadows) hosted a STAR Program Workshop and Registration Drive for local residents with the New York State Department of Taxation of Finance and the New York City Department of Finance. As a result of new legislation, homeowners who had been receiving Basic STAR benefits must re-register with the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance. A workshop was held in which both agencies explained the various exemption programs, eligibility and guidelines, and registration process.

“I want to ensure that our homeowners receive the tax relief that they are eligible for and that they deserve,” said Assemblywoman Rozic. “That is why my office organized a STAR Program Workshop and Registration Drive to bring government agencies directly into our community to assist homeowners.”

“Thanks to hundreds of local events, including this one sponsored by Assemblywoman Rozic, we've registered more than 1.5 million homeowners for their Basic STAR exemptions. Thank you Assemblywoman for organizing this event today,” said Commissioner Thomas H. Mattox.

“Whether you are a primary homeowner, veteran, or senior, if you qualify for an exemption we want to make sure you get the benefits you are entitled to,” said New York City Department of Finance Commissioner Beth E. Goldman. “I’d like to thank Assemblywoman Rozic for organizing this event to give homeowners the opportunity to understand how to take advantage of these programs.”

At Sunday’s event, hundreds of homeowners from across the City took advantage of the opportunity to register and enroll.

Homeowners who have been receiving Basic STAR benefits have until December 31, 2013 to re-register or risk losing their property tax benefits. If there are any questions, homeowners should feel free to contact Rozic’s office at 718-820-0241 or rozicn@assembly.state.ny.us.
