Assembly Passage of Advanced Home Health Aide Bill

Assemblymember Deborah J. Glick, 66th Assembly District, Manhattan, announces Assembly passage of her legislation, A.10137, which would allow advanced home health aides to perform health-related tasks under the direct supervision of a registered professional nurse. This legislation will help individuals with disabilities to transition from institutional settings to home and community based environments.

“I’m very pleased that we were able to craft a balanced measure that incorporates suggestions from members of the disability community. It also provides a level of confidence that health and safety concerns have been addressed,” Glick stated.

In addition to providing individuals with access to more affordable and additional home care options, the legislation will also help the State draw down federal funds under the Community First Choice Option under the Affordable Care Act.

“We are all looking for the most integrated setting that provides needed long-term care services. I am hopeful that our Senate colleagues will join us in passing this needed legislation,” concluded Glick.
