Brabenec Critical Of Cuomo’s Common Core Panel

A Statement from Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,C,I-Deerpark)

“Gov. Cuomo’s announcement of a commission to revamp Common Core is nothing but a political farce designed to trick New Yorkers into believing he is listening to their concerns. With the announcement of yet another commission to hide behind, Gov. Cuomo has once again shirked his responsibilities of governing to a handful of his own cronies. The governor has said he wants a “total reboot” of the state’s education curriculum, yet his commission consists of many of the same political hacks (including the same chairman, Richard Parsons) from his 2012 panel that shaped the current debacle we find ourselves in.

“My colleagues and I already have proposed the APPLE Plan, a solution to this fiasco which utilizes input from a wide variety of parents, teachers and their union representatives, principals and superintendents from across the state. We will create an age- and developmentally-appropriate curriculum, fully fund our schools, eliminate costly and overly-stressful standardized testing, and bring about an end to the testing-based teacher evaluation system as we know it. It’s time to end the political games and end Common Core.”
