Assemblyman Bill Reilich (R,C,I-Greece) today attended a press conference to unveil new legislation called the Sensible Opportunity for Legislative Equality Act (SOLE). The legislation would give each Assembly and Senate member the right to choose one bill of statewide significance to be sent to the floor for an up-or-down vote. Reilich, one of the bill’s main sponsors, was joined by other members of the Assembly Minority Conference.

“I think this measure is well intended to reform the way Albany operates,” said Assemblyman Reilich. “Currently, the rules that govern passage of most legislation through the state Assembly are restrictive and less generous with regard to what bills can pass through a committee and what bills can be debated. The measure would give legislators from all regions of the state a chance to bring an idea forward and have it vetted through the legislative process without it being stifled in committee.”
