DiPietro & Garden Clubs Dedicate Blue Star Memorial

Assemblyman David DiPietro (R,C-East Aurora) was joined this afternoon by the National Garden Club and the Federated Garden Clubs of New York State in a Blue Star Memorial dedication at Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park.

“It is a great honor to have been a part of this process to pay tribute to the men and women who have served our great nation,” DiPietro said. “Today, we took an everlasting step for those who defended our country to make sure their services are always remembered.”

The National Garden Club began its Blue Star Highway System in 1945, and helps to recognize the constant sacrifices made by our military servicemen and women each day by building highway markers in remembrance of these heroes. The highway system now covers thousands of miles of highway in the continental United States, Alaska, and Hawaii. The Blue Star became an icon during World War II, having been seen on flags, in businesses, churches, and banners at homes for those who had family members involved in the war.
