Assemblywoman Addie J. Russell: Statement on Alcoa Contract
January 12, 2009
“It’s an honor and a privilege to see the finalization of this significant agreement to provide low-cost power to Alcoa, helping the company save money, preserve more than 1,000 local jobs and expand its operations. I commend Governor Paterson, Senator Darrel Aubertine, Alcoa and the New York Power Authority for their hard work in negotiating and finalizing the 30-year contract.
“In a time when job creation and economic development are scarce, this is a vote of confidence for the North Country. I have always maintained that we have everything we need to strengthen our economy right here in our backyard, and this investment is proof. Our access to clean, low-cost power will continue to ensure more businesses call the North Country home.”
