Assemblywoman Addie J. Russell congratulated Kirsten Gillibrand on her appointment today to the US Senate, succeeding now Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton.
“Gov. Paterson’s choice of Representative Gillibrand resonates strongly and positively in the 118th Assembly District.”
“Kirsten Gillibrand currently represents a Congressional District that extends into the Adirondacks as far as Lake Placid. She already has a great deal of experience and knowledge about issues important to the North Country. She has been a member of both the House Armed Services Committee and the Agriculture Committee. She helped author the 2007 Farm Bill and supports a “Buy Local” initiative providing funding to businesses that buy products from farms within their region, promoting the transition of farms to organic. In addition, she founded the Congressional High Tech Caucus which focuses on keeping the United States as a leader of emerging technologies and industries. This meshes extremely well with the research being conducted at colleges and universities in the River District.”
“I have already sent an e-mail to Rep. Gillibrand’s office to congratulate her and to invite her to visit the North Country. I know she will be a wonderful advocate for our region and I look forward to working with her.”
