Federal Stimulus Plan Provides Fiscal Relief to St. Lawrence and Jefferson Counties
Reimbursement for Medicaid costs will help local governments balance budgets
March 4, 2009
“Thanks to the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, St. Lawrence County will receive $7.9 million and Jefferson County will receive $7.4 million in Federal Medical Assistance Percentages aid over the next 27 months. This influx of needed Medicaid reimbursement will assist local governments with their budget shortfalls caused by the crippling economic crisis gripping our state and our nation.
“Many area local governments are faced with the need to raise taxes, delay projects or cut services to close budget gaps. This funding could not have come any quicker. This aid will ensure that many Jefferson and St. Lawrence County residents continue to receive adequate healthcare without bankrupting our local governments.”
