Assemblywoman Russell: Power for Jobs Program Extended

Businesses will continue to receive low-cost power, saving jobs

“Governor Paterson today has signed the New York’s Power for Jobs program legislation into law (A.9039), a critical program for many businesses in the North Country. This legislation extends Power for Jobs program through May 15, 2010. Businesses participating in this program will continue to receive the benefits they need to retain and create more jobs. I am proud to have been a sponsor on this bill in the assembly.

“One of New York’s fundamental needs for economic recovery is making the cost of doing business more affordable, and the Power for Jobs program does just that via the delivery of low-cost power. This program helps hundreds of businesses, from Samaritan Medical Center to Clarkson University compete in today’s marketplace by providing them relief from the high energy costs that plague our state.

“It is time for New York to become more energy and cost efficient. To that end, it is essential that we develop and implement a low-cost, clean, efficient energy system. I am committed to the goals of the Power for Jobs program and the creation of new, innovative sources of low-cost power for all New Yorkers.”
