Governor Paterson Signs Critical Revenue Legislation for Jefferson County
July 27, 2009

Governor David Paterson today signed legislation that will allow Jefferson County to continue to collect sales tax at the rate of 3.75%. The rate was established in 2004 and it was scheduled to expire this November.

Assemblywoman Addie J. Russell (D-Theresa) sponsored the measure in the Assembly. “The enactment of this legislation will avoid a huge potential budget shortfall for Jefferson County. If this measure had not been enacted into law there would be a loss of approximately $10 Million in revenue. As a former member of the Jefferson County Board of Legislators I recognize the critical importance of this revenue stream in keeping our local property taxes stable,” she said.
