Assembly Passes Permanent Power for Jobs Bill
May 25, 2010
“On Monday, the Assembly passed a permanent Power for Jobs bill that expands the current program and provides for future growth while protecting the hydro-power benefits in the Rural and Domestic Program for North Country farmers, seniors and working families. If we want to stimulate the North Country economy we must provide businesses with the certainty that they will continue to receive these benefits for years to come, but it does not require that the power generated in our backyard be stripped from the North Country and sent downstate.
“I have already had discussions with the Chair of the Assembly’s Energy Committee, Kevin Cahill, encouraging him to work closely with Senator Aubertine in the coming days to work out differences between the two proposals. I am certain that the Assembly, Senate and governor will come to a consensus swiftly, because we all understand how important this program is to the recovery and growth of our economy.”
