Assemblymember Russell helps provide relief for local governments
County clerks to retain funds collected by the state
March 30, 2012
“In an effort to save local governments money, I supported a measure in the final 2012-13 state budget that will allow county clerks to share in the fees collected online from state Department of Motor Vehicles transactions. I have been working on this issue throughout my time in the Assembly, by sponsoring bills that would address the erosion of fees retained by counties. (A.3368-A of 2011 and A.9919 of 2010).
“This is good news for County Governments. Rather than continuing an unfunded mandate, we are turning the tide and pushing back on these types of policies to the benefit of property tax payers.”
