Russell Applauds Senate for Following Assembly in Passing “Green Jobs, Green NY”

September 11, 2009

Assemblywoman Addie J. Russell (D-Theresa) applauded the Senate for passing legislation authorizing the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to create and administer the “green jobs, green New York” program. The program provides financing to communities, homes, small businesses and not-for-profits to help revitalize the economy in an energy-independent and environmentally responsible way. The Assembly approved the legislation with unanimous, bipartisan support earlier this year (A.8901).

“This legislation will not only create local construction jobs and reduce energy costs, but also increase demand for the green technologies that are currently being researched, developed and produced at our local colleges and universities, such as Clarkson,” said Russell. “Increased demand for these technologies act as a draw for businesses looking to put the ingenuity of our students into production. This has already been seen at Zeropoint Clean Tech, a company that put the research and development in biomass gasification at Clarkson into production, creating local jobs and contributing to the local economy.”

“I am hopeful the Governor signs this important piece of legislation into law so our local residents and businesses can start taking advantage of this program to save money, the environment and create local jobs.”
