Graf Responds To Gov’s Budget Proposal
Assemblyman Al Graf (R,C–Holbrook) issued the following statement:
January 19, 2012
Governor Cuomo’s 2012-13 Executive Budget proposal contains positive economic development initiatives, like the Energy Highway that I have fought for, which has the potential to change our economy, make Long Island more affordable and create jobs, while at the same time lowering the electric bill for homeowners, businesses, local governments and non-profits. However, there are many components of this budget that need to be discussed; primarily, how to fund the majority of the cornerstone projects. Graf states that one proposal where he parts company with the Governor is the governor’s call for the establishment of a Health Benefit Exchange. Graf stated he cannot support forcing a backdoor form of Obama-Care upon the people of this state. Presently, the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear arguments on the constitutionality of the federal program. Graf is calling on the Governor to take a wait-and-see attitude and not rush to create another program that the people of this state could ill afford if the federal law is found to be unconstitutional.
