New York Takes Major Step To Fight Prescription Drug Abuse
Assemblyman Al Graf (R,C–Holbrook) issued the following statement:
June 12, 2012
Long Islanders know all too well the devastating impact that prescription drug abuse can have on our children and families. Gateway drugs like oxycodone are being used by drug dealers to transition many youth to heroin, while criminals have gone to such violent extents as recently holding up a pharmacy in my district to obtain these pills. It is past the time that we all stand together and address this serious problem. By creating the I-STOP prescription registry, New York has taken a leading role in the fight against the scourge of abuse that claims nearly 15,000 lives each year. I’m proud to have co-sponsored this legislation, which is an example of how state government can function in a bipartisan manner when the stakes are this high.
