January 4, 2006

Assemblymen Andrew Raia (R,C,I,WF-East Northport) and James Conte (R,C-Huntington Station) today joined their Assembly Minority colleagues in demanding swift action on an agreement to draft and pass bipartisan legislation extending and strengthening registration requirements of the state Sex Offender Registry. Current state law mandating that certain Level 1 and 2 sex offenders must register for 10 years after their convictions is set to expire on January 21, 2006. Both assemblymen are calling for a conference committee to be convened to forge a bipartisan agreement to ensure the Huntington community is safe from dangerous sex offenders.
