Assemblyman Andrew Raia (R,C,I,WF-Northport) joins current “foster grandparents” from the Foster Grandparent Program in Suffolk County in calling for new volunteers to staff the rewarding initiative.
Assemblyman Andrew Raia (R,C,I,WF-Northport) is joining with Foster Grandparent Program officials in efforts to recruit new volunteers to provide assistance to special-needs children in Suffolk County. The Foster Grandparent Program is supported by the Federation of Organizations.

“I am proud to help in the recruiting process, and I strongly encourage potential volunteers to join the Foster Grandparent Program,” said Raia.

Program volunteers receive a tax-free hourly stipend, assistance with transportation to their work sites, a daily meal, accident and liability insurance, ongoing supervision and in-service training to enhance their volunteer experience.

“The Foster Grandparent Program is an extremely valuable program and is mutually beneficial for both the children and grandparents,” said Raia.

The program matches individuals who help each other – an older person who needs income and meaningful work, and a special-needs child who craves individual attention and emotional support. The volunteers encourage and motivate the students in a nurturing manner.
