Raia Reminds Eligible Homeowners to Apply for the Special STAR Rebate

Deadline to file by is January 22nd
January 11, 2007

Assemblyman Andrew Raia (R, C, I, WF-East Northport) reminds eligible homeowners to apply for the STAR Local Property Tax Rebate, if they have not already done so. Applications must be postmarked on or before the deadline of Monday, January 22, 2007. To apply for the rebate, use Form DTF-178 from the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, which requires the certification of your local tax assessor.

Form DTF-178 and instructions for its submission are available on the Department of Taxation and Finance website (www.tax.state.ny.us/nyshome/starrebate.htm). You can also obtain the form from your local tax assessor’s office. The rebate checks take 60-90 days to be issued to the property owner after the application is filed.

“If you are unsure if you qualify for STAR or the special rebate, please feel free to contact my district office. I strongly encourage residents to double check if they haven’t done so already because we have had cases where people have qualified for the program and have not taken advantage of it,” said Raia.

Since October, over 3.3 million eligible homeowners have applied and/or been awarded STAR rebate checks from the state of New York for a portion of their local property taxes. If you have any questions or need assistance regarding this or any other matter, please contact the office of Assemblyman Raia at 261-4151.
