Assemblyman Andrew Raia (R,C,I,WF-Northport) announced today that the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators is now accepting applications for four $1,500 scholarships to be awarded in June at their annual Conference Weekend.

“I strongly encourage students in my district to submit an application for this award,” said Raia. “It is a great opportunity to obtain financial assistance considering the rising costs of a higher education.”

This year, the Italian-American State Legislators Conference will be awarding four $1,500 scholarships to four current or future college students from New York State- two scholarships for academic achievements and two scholarships for athletics. All applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. on May 4th in order for recipients to be considered for the new academic year beginning in the Fall. Eligibility will be based upon several factors including a student’s grade point average, their achievements in sports, their involvement in the local communities as well as their individual financial need.

“Students should demonstrate not only their academic skills, but also their involvement in extracurricular activities,” concluded Raia. “This year’s recipients will be invited to Albany to receive their scholarship awards in June and I look forward to meeting the recipients of these awards. I know Long Island will be well represented in this competition.”
