Statement from Assemblyman Andrew Raia on Governor’s Resignation

March 12, 2008

Today, Eliot Spitzer decided to step down from his post as Governor of New York State. My thoughts are with his family, who is trying to cope with this difficult situation. I want my constituents to know that I will work diligently with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure an easy transition through the rough roads of our state capital in working with our new governor, David Paterson.

However, now that the governor has done the right thing and resigned, legislative business must continue and move forward. With that being said, my colleagues in both the Senate and Assembly must now get back to doing what we were elected to do – and that is to pass an on-time and fiscally responsible state budget for the people of New York.
