Raia Attends Pope’s Mass at Yankee Stadium

April 23, 2008
Assemblyman Andrew Raia (R,I,C,WF-East Northport) attended Pope Benedict the XVI Mass on Sunday at Yankee Stadium followed by his departure at JFK Airport. The pope’s visit to Yankee Stadium capped what proved to be a very special few days for New York and Catholics nationwide.

“I am so honored to be able to see the Pope in person – it was truly a memory that will never be forgotten,” said Raia. “To experience the Pope’s mass and his message of moral values and helping those who can’t help themselves, I believe, will have an everlasting effect on those who were there and the million who watched it on television.”

Raia said, besides the Mass at Yankee Stadium, part of the Pope’s journey to the United States included a visit to Washington, D.C., an address to the United Nations, a morning Mass with priests, deacons, and members of religious orders at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and a visit to Ground Zero.
