Assemblyman Andrew Raia (R,I,C,WF-East Northport) today awarded Christine Larsen from Commack High School with the Italian-American Academic Scholarship for her hard work and dedication to academics. The award ceremony took place at the state capitol in Albany on Sunday, June 1, where Ms. Larsen, along with her parents, joined Assemblyman Raia to receive her scholarship at the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators Dinner.
“The New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators is a tremendous organization that helps students realize the American dream of going to college,” said Raia. “I am pleased to present this opportunity to Christine Larson, who has exemplified dedication to higher learning and personal responsibility that will ensure the leadership our communities need to have a bright and successful future.”
Raia noted that Ms. Larsen, who currently holds a 4.0 grade point average, is a Top Cohort, Vice President of the National Honor Society and an International Baccalaureate Diploma Candidate, which is the most prestigious academic program her school offers – it emphasizes community service and exposure to diverse cultures and ideas. Ms. Larsen plans on attending the University of Delaware for her Bachelor of Music Degree and then receiving her Master’s Degree, where she plans on showing her appreciation of the arts by giving other students an opportunity to succeed and becoming a music teacher.
