Assemblyman Andrew Raia (R,I,C-East Northport) and Assemblyman Jim Conte (R,I,C,WF-Huntington Station) are pleased to announce that Elwood Public Library in East Northport will receive a $180,000 construction grant for the complete interior renovation of the newly leased library building. The grant is part of a $14 million capital fund appropriation in the 2008 State Budget for construction and renovation of public libraries that the Assemblymen helped secure in last year’s budget.
“Public libraries are a valuable resource for our communities and serve as an important source of information for children, parents and seniors by giving them access to large volumes of free reading materials and internet access,” said Raia. “This grant will help to ensure that the library’s resources are accessible to seniors and people with disabilities, while providing an excellent learning environment for all.”
“This funding will help keep our libraries up-to-date and allows more of our local tax dollars to be used to update technologies and purchase new books,” said Conte. “By keeping our libraries in good condition, we can make certain that future generations have access to these important learning centers.”
