Assemblyman Andrew Raia (R,I,C-East Northport) recently recognized the winners of his 2009 Student Poster Contest in Hauppauge’s New York State Office Building. The March 5 awards ceremony highlighted last year’s theme, “There Ought to Be a Law.” The contest was open to elementary- and intermediate-aged students.
The participants not only had their poster ideas displayed in the building during the ceremony, but also were encouraged to travel with their parents to Albany to take part in a tour of the Capitol. All students who attend the tour will be formally recognized on the floor of the Assembly. Last year’s 12 poster contest winners were Lauren Hackett, Ava Anacreonte, Tyler Sanrett, Cordelia Marable, Dominick Riccardi, Nathalie Poblete-Infante, Tyler Hansen, Jennifer Fedrich, Justin Petrizzo, Michael Scaffidi, Jacqueline Gentile, and Kristen Alo.
“My student poster contest provides young people with a civics lesson and an art project in one,” said Raia. “Congratulations to our 2009 artists. I look forward to seeing you again in Albany.”
