Assemblyman Andrew Raia (R,I,C-East Northport) today joined once again with the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program in its annual Mother’s Day campaign to urge women to get mammograms.
“I have fought hard to improve the lives of Long Island’s families through wellness programs that emphasize education and awareness,” said Raia. “This Mother’s Day can be a time of both reflection and action in the battle against breast cancer: remembering those who have lost their lives to the illness and urging others to protect themselves with something as simple as getting a mammogram.”
For more information and to locate an accredited mammography facility near you, please call the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline at 1-800-877-8077. Callers also can receive emotional support from the hotline’s specially trained volunteers, most of whom are breast cancer survivors.
The hotline, a product of the Adelphi University School of Social Work on Long Island, was created in 1980. It is funded through the New York State Legislature, the state Department of Health, grants and contributions. For more information, please visit the program’s Web site, www.adelphi.edu/nysbreastcancer. All services are free.
