Assemblyman Andrew Raia (R,I,C – East Northport) announced that the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators is currently accepting applications from residents of the 9th Assembly District, which includes parts of the Town of Huntington, Babylon and Islip. The deadline for submission is Tuesday, May 2, and winners will be awarded their scholarships in June at the Annual Conference.
This year, the Conference of Italian-American State Legislators will be awarding one academic and one athletic scholarship for $1,500. The scholarship is available to high school seniors, college undergraduates, and graduate students. Eligibility will be based upon student’s grade-point average, an interest in pursuing a higher education, involvement in the local community as well as individual financial need.
“It’s important to help hardworking students meet their required education expenses with scholarships,” Raia said. “The right to a higher education should not be hindered due to rising costs. I’m truly committed to higher education and I thank the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators for their support of students in the 9th Assembly District.”
