Assemblyman Andrew Raia (R,I,C – East Northport) met yesterday with Robin Roberts who was visiting the state capital from Suffolk County to lobby for a bill requiring clinical outpatient, non-emergency facilities to determine whether a patient is a sex offender. As one of the sponsors of the bill (A. 6573), Raia thanked Ms. Roberts for her advocacy on this important issue.

“This bill establishes common sense protection methods that require therapy providers to determine whether any patients participating in a group therapy session are registered sex offenders for the protection of others in the program,” said Raia. “Providing the ability to segregate these people from the group session will protect patients who were victims of sexual abuse from possible further abuse. I applaud Robin for being such a true advocate for sexual abuse victims; her passion and perseverance for this cause is commendable.”
